4D Project Overview
Building on the highly successful integrated and distributed
Bioinformatics Platform for Genome Canada, Dr. Sensen’s team has become
one of a few in the world with the computational power to successfully
undertake this type of 4D initiative using spatial and temporal data.
The 4D Project provides services based on the 4D visualization
system currently in place at the Sun Center of Excellence for Visual Genomics (COE). Research groups
worldwide can access this powerful new technology, significantly
impacting Canadian and international genetic disease research with the
potential to deliver wide-ranging socio-economic advances.
The Project is organized into five components, four of which are
separate biomedical case studies with their own research objectives. These four components serve as sources of experimental data and user
expertise. The fifth component, led by Dr. Sensen's team at the
University of Calgary, combines the knowledge gained from these four
components into a unified 4D system for data analysis and
visualization, making the system capable of handling these four very
diverse case studies, as well as generic and extendible to new research
scenarios.
